LONG ISLAND
FIREFIGHTERS AND BRAVE MOTORCYCLISTS
HIT THE WET ROADS
FOR ANNUAL BLESSING OF THE BIKES

The Riders of Fire Motorcycle Club and the Nassau County Fire Riders
are both motorcycle clubs made up of volunteer and career
firefighters. Each club raises money for charity and promotes
motorcycle safety as well as fire safety.
The 5th Annual Blessing of the Bikes was held on Sunday, April 27th.
The day was plagued with scattered showers and damp weather instead
of the sunny, warm and dry weather Long Islanders enjoyed during the
week prior to the event.
Despite the bad weather, many brave riders still came to the event
and rode in the damp and wet weather from Bald Hill in Farmingville
to Four Towns Fireman’s Training Center in Merrick. The ride was
made safe thanks to road blocking assistance from the Fire Police of
Farmingville, Holtsville, North Patchogue, and Selden fire
departments as well as Suffolk County Police 5th and 6th Precincts,
Highway Patrol, State Police.
A special thanks goes out to the vendors who came out in spite of
the poor weather. Although profits from the event were minimal, lots
of riders still had their bikes blessed by Deacon Doug Ferreiro from
Franklin Square Munson Fire Department. Deacon Doug’s smile and
enthusiasm raised the spirits of those brave riders who were cold
and wet, and we thank him for coming out on such a dreary day. May
all of the riders who had this special blessing, as well as all
motorcyclists, have a safe and enjoyable riding season. Another
special thanks for Waldo Cabrera of
mylitv.com and islip.tv. He (and his video equipment) also
endured the bad weather to put together a video of the event on the
mylitv.com website.
